TAB Meeting Agenda 5/9/2016

1. Snacks! Discussion about any books everyone is reading lately.
2. Decide a new topic and books to start reading. Last time we did setting, and before then relationship.

   -Decided to go along with Character Development and just share the book that you have been reading.
3.  At our last meeting we planned to research program ideas and share with the group to come up with ideas for teen programs to do during the summer.

   -Teen program ideas included:
1. Music Appreciation Day (Bring your instrument and learn from a professional)
1. Write a song to go along with a book you just read
2. Book to movie showing on the Library's side yard (AT OUR NEXT TAB MEETING THINK OF A BOOK TO MOVIE SUGGESTION)
3. TAB Membership Drive in August or September
4. Zombie Make-up event in October possibly
5. "Color Runs" (Powdered color running event). Host it for teens and kids.

-Teen Choice Read for June 2016 is "Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl" By Melissa Keil. (Check it out)

TAB Meeting Agenda 4/25/2016

1.      “The Place is the Thing…” How setting is used in a story quarterly book discussion. Recommended titles to read: “Paper Towns” By John Green, “Rain of the Ghosts” By Greg Weisman, and “Tell the Story to It’s End” By Simon Clark.

a.     What is the setting of the novel you read?

b.     How does the author paint a picture of the setting in your head?

c.      What did the author make you see, smell, or hear in the story using setting?

d.     How do the characters interact within the setting?

e.     Is setting dependent upon genre? If so, how?

2.     At our last meeting on 3/28/16 we planned to research program ideas and share with the group to come up with ideas for teen programs to do during the summer.

a.     We decided to postpone this discussion till our next meeting on May 9th at 4:00 PM.

3.     After two months of TAB voting we have selected three officers for the next year 2016-2017 effective now. Please welcome!

4.     Upcoming volunteer opportunity in the Library. We are having a “Let’s Read Around Town” Family Literacy Night with Partnership for Children on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Volunteers are needed to help set up and guide children and parents during the program. If you are interested please let Amanda know.

TAB Meeting 3/28/16

I hope everyone is enjoying spring and had a very Happy Easter.

Item #1:
If you have not voted for our three TAB officers please do so before March 31st. Elected officials will be contacted by April 1st with their responsibilities.

Item #2:
We chose a TAB good read for April "Yellow Brick War" by Danielle Paige it is the third book in the Dorothy Must Die series. A super fun Wizard of Oz adventure series. Check it out on Good Reads.

Item #3:
There are a couple volunteer opportunities in April. The first week of April we are having our Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale the 7-9. We have had a ton of YA, kids, and DVD's donated so please stop by and support the library. We would like volunteers to help us clean up after the book sale on Saturday. The sale ends at 1:00 PM so if you are available to help box up books from 12:30 to 1:30 that would be wonderful. We may even need assistance straightening the room back too.

Also we are having Curious George, a Person County kid's favorite monkey, on April 12 and 13 at 10:30 AM and 4:00 PM both days. If you are available and would like to wear the Curious George costume and get tons of hugs, high fives, and see the smiles on young faces; please let me know, aweaver@personcounty.net.

Item #4:
Please remember next month in April TAB will meet on the 25th at 4:00 PM to discuss "Place is the Thing..." a discussion of how setting is used to enhance a story. This book discussion should be very interesting. Please follow the link to see some suggested reads. Be prepared to share, chat, and discuss.

Item #5:
For next time please chat with your friends and cyber snooping online to come up with two suggestions for TAB library programs. What type program would you or your friends attend in the library? What have you seen at other libraries? Why type programs does your school library do? If you get stumped please feel free to contact me. We are looking for teen or tween programs to do this summer. TAB Officer Ballot

  So now is the time to vote for TAB officer's. The three positions that are available are President, Vice President, and Secretary. Please

TAB Meeting 2/1/2016

We had a good time at our last meeting, where the first thing on the agenda was to choose four winners of our Bookmark Design Contest. The one’s that won in the four grade level groups was Khloe Owens a first grader, Megan Clifton a third grader, Maggie Rand an eighth grader, and Carleigh Barbour. Their bookmarks will be printed up at Taylors Printing and made available at the front desk for those upon check out, while supplies last. We also chose a good read for February titled The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins. Be sure to check it out. Also we have another costume coming, Hedgie. The three volunteers I have participating are Jessie, Mary, and Aselyn for Feb. 9 and 10.  Here is the volunteer line-up.

If these dates and times does not work for the volunteers please let me know. Also we discussed having TAB officers who would be elected by a secret ballot for one year. I think we will have the year run from Jan. to Dec. for our officer positions. From what we have discussed we will have three officers a President, Vice President, and Secretary. I have composed a description of these three officer positions below. If you are interested in serving TAB as one of these officers please send me a letter of intent/interest. I will email out a secret online ballot and at our next TAB meeting on Mar. 28 at 4:00 PM I will announce the three winners.  At the meeting we agreed that serving on TAB in these positions would look really good on applications to college or a job. So please let me know if you are interested by Feb. 12.  That way I can get the ballot together in time for everyone to vote. Let me know if you have any questions. TAB President

The primary function of the TAB President will be to help keep things organized. The President will help Ms. Amanda run meetings and keep members on topic. The President will also be responsible for helping organize TAB events, such as programs or volunteer opportunities. The President needs to be able to attend most TAB meetings, and will be expected to come a little early to help set up. The President has to be very organized, and have enough free time to be heavily involved in the TAB functions. All officers are responsible for advocacy—encouraging other teens to join the library’s TAB group.

TAB Vice President

The VP will be the backup for the President in case he or she can't attend a meeting. The primary responsibility of the VP will be communicating among TAB members to make sure that everyone knows when meetings, volunteer opportunities, and programs are, etc. The VP also works alongside of the President in the performance of TAB responsibilities. All officers are responsible for advocacy—encouraging other teens to join the library’s TAB group. 

Secretary

The Secretary's primary responsibility will be taking notes during meetings, and then typing them up to be emailed to all TAB members or placed on a library blog. This is so people who can't attend will still be able to see what's going on. All officers are responsible for advocacy—encouraging other teens to join the library’s TAB group.
